Hello, in this episode, I wanna share the trip I’d take In July 19-22, 2016. We’re exploring North Sumatra start from the capital, Medan, to Toba with Thais (Thailand People). In July 19, we reached Kualanamu International Airport, wait for the Thais. Around 10 o’clock, we’d met. I came with my friend, Dedi Butar-Butar, who also acted as our driver.
The Thais group consists of two female and one male. Actually, they are four people, but one of them have a problem with his passport, and failed to come with them. The name of their leader is Mootum.
The first thing we done were going to Money Changer, not far from Maimoon Palace. After that, we took lunch in a Padang Restaurant, not far from Money Changer.
Then, after lunch, we went to Maimoon Palace. They are so happy in there; even try most of Melayu Traditional clothes which could try by guests. We spent around two hours in there.
At four o’clock, we proceed to Berastagi. We arrived around six o’clock. We enjoyed roasted corns and hot ginger drink there. After that, we continue check in to homestay. Nachelle Homestay. Although this homestay isn’t precisely besides the main road, this homestay is recommended. The owner is so kind, and the rest of tenants were foreigners.
In the night, we hanged out to Tugu Kol, the center of culinary in Berastagi. So many culinary we found here, such as satay, grilled fish, pork, roasted chicken, meatballs, noodles, roasted bread and so many more.
We tried friend rice, “kwetiaw” (kind of noodle), fried noodles, and roasted bread. That’s our activity in the first day of trip.
The second day, we wake up at 04:30 AM.
We’re prepared for Trekking to Sibayak. From our homestay till the last place before trekking, a parking car need time around 30 minutes. We began our trekking around five AM, and because Thais were beginner, our estimation to reach the top a little bit slack. We reached the top around seven AM (normally, only one hour). We spent around 2 hours there, and then we downward the hill. At eleven o’clock, we directly proceed to traditional market which only sell fruits, buy some fruits for souvenir. After that, we’re ready for checking from homestay out. At 13 o’clock, we proceed to Simalem resort.
We need around 45 minutes reached the resort. We spent around a half of hour for hunting some photos. After satisfied in Simalem Resort, we proceed to Sipiso-Piso Waterfall (need around a half of hour). We take a break and enjoy the waterfall, before we precede our trip to Parapat via Simanjarunjung roadway.
During the trip to Parapat, the panorama of Lake Toba was so beauty, simple stunning, and perfect. We’re arrived in Parapat around 18:30, and then we continue to Ajibata and cross the lake to reached Tomok-Tuktuk.
On the third day, we prepare to reach the best spot in Tuktuk for enjoying the best view of Lake Toba and sunrise moment. After that, we went to Kampung Batak, trying the traditional Dance, accompanied by Sigale-gale, a human-alike puppet which also dances with us.
Then we took lunch in Sibolazi beach. After lunch, we continued to Huta Siallagan, a small village which believed as “memento” of the age of cannibalism in Batak.
There are several chair and stones made by big stones. Believe it or not, once upon a time, a heavy criminal such as rapist, murderer, would get a death penalty. Neither by shooting nor hanging, the criminal will be laid and tied. The Shaman will be rip the chest off from the criminal slowly, and tortured the criminal using acid. The criminal will scream loudly, and the final stage, the shaman will rip the heart out and consume it for his magical power. Sounds creepy? Absolutely. After visit Huta Siallagan, we back to homestay and take a rest, enjoying the sunset.
The fourth day or literally, the last day, is the day our trip will come to the end. . Obviously, their flights were in the middle of night, therefore we don’t take it too rush. We made schedule at 10:30 AM, Dedy and I would begin escort them to Kualanamu International Airport, through Tomok – Pangururan – Tele – Doloksanggul – Balige – Parapat –Siantar – Medan. Not a normal one, but this route offers so much interest things. When we arrived in Tele, we can see Toba Caldera, and we take as much as we can the best pictures from several spots.
We took lunch in Doloksanggul, then rest in Hinalang, Balige. In Hinalang, so much beautiful paddies, and they’re so happy.
After satisfied, we precede our trip to Parapat and took dinner there. Finally, we’re arrived in Airport around 11:00 PM. Thank you, Mootum for having trip with us.0
